When I was a junior in college, I hit that point that most every college student hits. I was playing golf, focusing on my school work, keeping up with my social life, etc. One day I realized that it was all going to end soon and that I actually had to make a decision on what I wanted to be for the rest of my life! Every person unfortunately has to face this decision at least one time in their life, and if this is you right now you are not alone!
Anyways, I knew I didn’t want to be in the corporate world. I just had a gut feeling that that wasn’t what I was supposed to do. I wanted something creative, but something that still let me use my business knowledge. I really had no passion for anything except for…well…golf and clothes. So why not start a golf fashion brand for girls like me?!
When I broke the news to my best friend, Shay (who was also my teammate) she was nothing but excited for me! She shared the same struggle as I did at the time and her engagement photos were coming up. Her and her fiancé (now husband) were huge golfers and they were having a shoot at a golf course in town. She asked me if I could make her a skort for her pictures, she didn’t care what color it was, the print, details, anything. She said I had free reign to do whatever I wanted with it! While this may sound like it would be easier for me, it actually wasn’t. These are pictures she is going to have forever and she wants me to design her outfit?! Talk about pressure.
The skort I made for her was one of the first I ever did. I actually made the outer skirt out of curtain fabric I got from Walmart! I thought the pink paisley fit Shay’s personality perfectly and would photograph well. I was brand new to this and was working off a budget. I included white and pink trim that formed into a bow (always have to have the bow) at the bottom for some extra detail. The shorts were made out of all cotton, and were not very comfortable. Shay is the one who actually gave me the idea of the spandex inner shorts that are now featured in my designs and give it a stretchy, super comfortable fit!
The skort turned out well and I feel so lucky to have been the one to design it for her in these pictures that also turned out gorgeous!
